RATIONALE: Music is life and it has a way of transcending the spoken language. It has a major impact on who we are and it is a very important part of people’s lives. Music is an art form. It is generated by a person or a group of talented yet usually ordinary people that express, willingly or not, an opinion regarding present times.  It has a way of expressing how we feel at any particular moment. There are many types of music that express feelings and gospel music is one of them. Gospel music has been around for a very long time. It will continue to be a forerunner for other types of music. It has changed throughout the years but its message and focus are still the same.

OBJECTIVE: The curriculum used will allow students to study the styles and traditions that have persevered in gospel music throughout our lifetime. At the end of these activities, the student will be able to explain the circumstances and events that influenced gospel composers and musicians.
